Dearest Churches,
It is with a heavy heart I write. Whether or not you politically align with the conservative blogger and broadcaster, we can all agree no person deserves to die from an evil killer shooting a gun and taking a life. This afternoon Charlie Kirk was heinously mowed down by another American, likely one who disagreed. We the church must stand and decry the evil unashamedly. We must call for unity, we must call for peace. Our members and our communities must see us this way.
Charlie, although very political in his actions, is a martyr. As you see on his recent post, Charlie wrote on X the words we all now need to hear, Jesus defeated death so you can live. He wasn’t saying this for himself. He advocated for and loved his God, his church, Israel, his family and his country. Charlie will leave a message with me, forever posted for the world to see, Jesus loved you so much He died for you, for you to live. May Charlie’s death not be shallow or meaningless. Turn to his Lord. Turn to the person he trusted above all else, Jesus. It is only when we find hope, love, and forgiveness in Jesus we are able to love and forgive others, particularly those we disagree with. Follow his example. Don’t shy away from sharing the message. There is hope in Jesus!
