In Genesis 1:27 the Bible says, God created Male and Female. In verse 28 the text continues and says; “God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth,…”” In Genesis 2:24 it is written that a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined with his wife. These are literally the first commands God give His new creation.
What God commands is to get married, have kids and have a mitt full of them. Today we have a radically different perspective on marriage and family. For whatever reason, maybe today’s young people believe climate change is caused by humans (although that has been disproven), maybe it’s the concern violence is rising, prices are increasing faster than wages, or families are breaking up at least half the time. None of these issues (some might call them excuses), however, usurp the original commands. We need to prioritize family. We need to prioritize marriage. Why? Because that is God’s design from the beginning.
So what is the problem? Gen Zers, young men and women aged 18-29 stated their definition of success to pollsters at NBC. The young men who voted for Trump, that is the more conservate group, for the first time in history ranked having children and a family as their #1 sign of success. What an exciting trend! However, if you ask the young women who voted for Harris the same question, they rank family and children 12th out of thirteen. Basically dooming our future, economically and socially.
The current replacement birthrate in America is 1.6. We hover on a cliff and look into a pit of collapse as a society. The current birthrate does not replace those dying, cover the costs of social programs, or give us hope for the future. The necessary replacement birthrate for a country to maintain its population is 2.1 children per woman. It is debatable that a country with such a low birth rate per woman can even bounce back from such anemic numbers.
God has called us to be fruitful and multiply. OK, it might be financially challenging. It might be scary to look at our world and see the conflict and craziness all around. But it is our command. I urge all young believing people to get at it. Step up and move out of your parents basement, put down the joystick or the video game controller. It’s time to man-up and follow God’s design. Find a believing young woman, get married, and have children. You won’t regret the moments your little ones run toward you and jump into your arms. You won’t regret teaching them the stories from the Bible and of how God has provided for your family. You won’t regret the camping trips and late night camp fires with stories and smores. Do it while you are young. God created you for this very thing.
